BaZi (八字) and Zi Wei Dou Shu (紫微斗数) are the two best-known systems of Chinese astrology. Both start from your date and hour of birth, but they look at your life through different lenses. How BaZi reads you八字怎么看

BaZi turns your birth moment into four pillars: year, month, day and hour. Each pillar has a Heavenly Stem on top and an Earthly Branch below, eight characters in all. The stem of the day pillar, your Day Master, stands for you, and every other character is read in relation to it through the five elements and the Ten Gods.

八字把出生时刻排成年、月、日、时四柱。每柱上为天干、下为地支，合共八个字。日柱的天干是日主，代表你自己，其余每个字都透过五行与十神，相对日主来解读。

Its strength is balance and timing: which elements are strong or lacking in your chart, which help you, and how the 10-year luck cycles shift that balance over your life.

How Zi Wei Dou Shu reads you紫微斗数怎么看

Zi Wei Dou Shu places stars into twelve palaces, each standing for one area of life: yourself, siblings, partner, children, wealth, health, travel, friends, career, property, inner wellbeing and parents. The main stars give each palace its character, and the four transformations (化禄、化权、化科、化忌) show where energy flows.

紫微斗数把星曜安放在十二宫，每一宫代表人生的一个方面：命宫、兄弟、夫妻、子女、财帛、疾厄、迁移、交友、官禄、田宅、福德与父母。主星决定每一宫的性质，四化（化禄、化权、化科、化忌）则显示能量的流向。

Its strength is detail by area. A palace is never read alone: it is read with the palace opposite and the two that form a triangle with it (三方四正), which shows how, for example, your career and your finances affect each other.

紫微斗数的长处，在于分宫细看。论宫从不单看一宫，而是连同对宫与三合的两宫一起看（三方四正），例如可以看出事业与财务如何互相牵动。

Why read them together为什么要合参

Each system confirms and fills in what the other shows. BaZi may show that a period favours growth; Zi Wei can show which area of life that growth is most likely to come through. When both point the same way, the reading is more reliable. When they differ, the difference itself is worth looking into.
